Rachel Engler has been elected to the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) Board of Directors as the Student/New Professional Board Representative. Rachel reports, “I will serve for one year as the Representative-Elect following the conclusion of the 2013 Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas. I will then become the Students and New Professionals Representative at the conclusion of the Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, in November 2014 and serve for two years to November, 2016.” NCFR’s website has a nice profile of Rachel (link).

Erika Brooks-Hurst is co-author of the article “Recession Jitters Among Professional Class Families: Perceptions of Economic Strain and Family Adjustments,” published online-first in the Journal of Family Issues with inclusion in a conventional issue of the journal to come. Here is a link to the abstract. The lead author is Anisa Zvonkovic, former HDFS Department Chair at Texas Tech and current holder of the same position at Virginia Tech. The other co-authors are two Ph.D. recipients from our department, Kyung-Hee Lee and NaYeon Lee.
